d-sub-25 male device to the d-sub-25 female plug of an Infovox
500 (former Mastervox) card. By doing so, you will destroy any of
the mentionned devices. The infovox 500 d-sub-25 plug is a serial-
interface with 12 V DC supplay and con only be used with an appropriate
cable. We take no responsability for damages originated by incorrect
connecting.
Contents
In the MSTV34 directory you will find:
MSTV34.DLL The SSIL driver for infovox versions 3.4 or earlier.
In the INFO37AM directory you will find:
INFO37AM.DLL The SSIL driver for infovox versions 3.5 or later.
In the MASTERVOX directory you will find;
VOXDRV.COM The infovox device driver for all cards version 3.6
and later, as well as for all serial type Infovox
speech synthesizers (VOXBOX), no matter which version.
INSTALLATION STEPS
1. Installation of An Open Book without a Synthesizer:
Frist you have to install your Scanner (hardware), Windows and
finally the Open Book software. When you are prompted for a
synthesizer to install you answer "no synthesizer" for the moment.
Use if ever possible the default directory-names \WINDOWS, \CALERA
und \OPENBOOK. The driver software for HP scanners is normally
added automatically by the installation program in your
CONFIG.SYS.
If you are not visual handicapped you can now test if An Open Book
is principially working. To do so, type OB and press the Enter key
at the DOS prompt. Open Book should start up an work (without synthesizer
output). If you are running an "E" version, do not forget to plug
the copy protection dongal into a paralell port.
2. INSTALLATION NOTES FOR THE: VOXBOX, COMPACT VOXBOX, MINIVOXBOX AND
INFOVOX 600/650/700/750 SYNTHESYZERS
Add the folloing line to your autoexec.bat
[DRIVE:][PATH]VOXDRV.COM /#1 /Pn /Tm
where n = The number of the com port [1 or 2]
and m = The baudrate [normally 4800]
If needed this file can be found in the INFOVOX directory.
3. INSTALLATION NOTES FOR THE: README BOARD, VOX PC BOARDS, MASTERVOX AND
NFOVOX 500 SYNTHESIZERS.
For Infovox-cards with firmware versions lower than 3.5 you must install
the appropriate Infovox device driver [PCVOX.SYS or MSTVOX.SYS] in
your CONFIG.SYS file. It is very important, to choose communication
channel 1. A /Tn value may be required on some computers:
DEVICE=[DRIVE:][PATH]VOXPC.SYS /#1 (/T800)
For all other infovox cards add the folloing line to your
autoexec.bat:
[DRIVE:][PATH]VOXDRV.COM /#1
After re-booting you can check the communication between computer
and synthesizer. To do so you can copy an ASCII text-file to
SPEECH1. The File should end with a period. If everything is ok,
you will hear the text beeing spoken.
If needed these files can be found in the INFOVOX directory.
3. ADAPTATION OF OPEN BOOK'S CONFIGURATION
You can now run the standard Open Book install program. Select "other"
when prompted for type of speech synthesizer. Enter the name:
MSTV34
or
INFO37AM
when prompted for the name of the synthesizer.
For manual installation.
In the directory \OPENBOOK you can find the file OPENBOOK.INI.
In side of this ASCII-file there is a section starting with the
statement [FILES]. Change inside of this section the line SPEECH
from \WINDOWS into \OPENBOOK. Inside the section [SPEECH] you
enter the name of the appropriate SSIL driver [MSTV34
or INFO37AM] onto the Line DRIVER=. There should not be entered an
extension here.
Now copy the SSIL Driver from this diskette into your directory
\OPENBOOK.
Open Book is now ready to use with Infovox Synthesizer. Start it
with OB and press [enter] at the DOS prompt.
Die SSIL Drivers [MSTV34.DLL und INFO37XX.DLL] are written
and copyrighted by me. They must not be sold to anybody else.
You may obtain an offical free copy from Arkenstone directly.
Improovments and an simplified installation will follow.
Have fun with you Open book.

PS. The last two characters of the root of SSIL driver
Info36XX.DLL select the system's default-language. FR stands for
French. Official Infovox abreviations are used [GE = Deutsch]. If
you want to change the driver to German default language for
example, you rename it to INFO37GE.DLL.
